RIZIN Fighting World GP 2016 @Saitama Super Arena, Saitama, Japan - Sep 25, 2016

Brazilian jiu-jitsu champion Gabi Garcia will square off against Destanie Yarbrough at Rizin Fighting Federation’s Sept. 25 event, the promotion announced Monday.

Additionally, Rena Kubota will face Miyu Yamamoto, while Kanako Murata will meet Kyra Batara on the card, which takes place at the Saitama Super Arena in Saitama, Japan. The event will feature the beginning of a 16-man open-weight tournament that will conclude as part of Rizin’s two-day New Year’s Eve lineup on Dec. 29 and Dec. 31.

Garcia made her MMA debut at Rizin’s New Year’s Eve event last year, earning a first-round technical knockout triumph over Seini Draughn. In her sophomore outing, the 30-year-old Brazilian submitted Anna Malyokova with an armbar 2:04 into the second round on April 17.

A native of California, Yarbrough made her first professional foray on the regional circuit in her home state, where she earned a 33-second doctor stoppage win over Crystal Parson on April 1.
